The 2024 World Choir Games took place grandly in Auckland, New Zealand from July 10th to 20th. In the first week of competitions, Taiwanese choirs achieved outstanding results with a total of 5 gold and 2 silver medals. Following the award ceremonies for the "Open Category" on July 13th and the "Champion Category" on July 14th, President Lai Ching-te and Vice President Bi-khim Hsiao promptly sent congratulatory messages through the TECO in Auckland, praising the achievements of "Dream Lotus Chorus," "Pqwasan na Taoshan," "New Taipei City Youth Choir," "National Nanke International Experimental High School Children’s Choir," "Kahuzas Chorus," and "Bao Lai Junior High School Choir" for bringing honor to the country.
The 13th World Choir Games in Auckland saw participation from over 200 choirs globally, comprising more than 10,000 participants, including 9 choirs and approximately 400 individuals from Taiwan. According to TECO in Auckland, Taiwan's "Dream Lotus Chorus" excelled with double gold medals in the "Mixed Choir" and "Music of Spirit & Faith" categories in the Open Competition. "Pqwasan na Taoshan" from Hsinchu County and "New Taipei City Youth Choir" achieved gold medals in the "Children's Choirs" category, while "Kahuzas Chorus" from Kaohsiung City and "National Nanke International Experimental High School Children’s Choir" from Tainan City secured silver medals in the same category. Additionally, "Bao Lai Junior High School Choir," competing in the Champion Competition, won gold in the "Folklore & Indigenous Music with Choreography" category, marking their third consecutive gold in the games.
Taiwanese choir groups demonstrated remarkable strength, with all five participating choirs in the first week achieving top honors. The second week featured additional Taiwanese choirs such as "Nibun Chorus," "Hngyang Na Atayal," and "Shih-Yu Chorus," further solidifying Taiwan's reputation for celestial vocal excellence on the international stage.
