The 2024 World Choir Games were grandly held in Auckland, New Zealand, from July 10 to 20. Over the two weeks of competition, nine Taiwanese choirs participated and achieved an impressive record of 10 gold and 3 silver medals. President Lai Ching-te and Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim both promptly sent congratulatory messages through TECO in Auckland, celebrating Taiwan’s remarkable international choral achievements.
In the 13th World Choir Games held in Auckland, more than 200 choirs with over 10,000 participants from around the globe competed. The nine Taiwanese choirs, consisting of around 500 members, showcased their strong capabilities, with nearly every competition resulting in either gold or silver medals. The choirs’ success was hard-earned through extensive training and overcoming various challenges, including pressure, funding, time differences, and climate.
TECO in Auckland reported that in the first week of competition, Taiwanese choirs won 5 gold and 2 silver medals, and in the second week, they added another 5 gold and 1 silver medals, bringing the total to 10 gold and 3 silver. Notable achievements include the "Dream Lotus Insightful Praises Choir" winning gold in both the "Mixed Choirs" and "Music of Spirit & Faith" categories, the "Hngyang Na Atayal" winning gold in both the "Folklore & Indigenous Music with Accompaniment" and "Mixed Chamber Choirs" categories, and the "Shih-Yu Chorus" receiving gold in the "Contemporary Music Mixed Voices" and silver in the "Folklore & Indigenous Music with Accompaniment" categories. The "Pqwasan na TaoShan" from Hsinchu County and the "New Taipei City Junior Choir" from New Taipei City each won gold in the "Children’s Choirs" category. The "Kahuzas Chorus" from Kaohsiung City and the "National Nanke International Experimental High School Children’s Choir" from Tainan City won silver in the same category. The "Nibun Chorus" from Kaohsiung City won gold in both the "Contemporary Music Mixed Voices" and "Folklore & Indigenous Music with Accompaniment" categories, while the "Bao Lai Junior High School Choir" won gold in the "Folk & Indigenous Music with Choreography" category.
