Ambassador Jessica Lee of the Republic of China (Taiwan) was invited to attend ground breaking ceremony of the ROC Government's Economic Stimulus Projects including the new State Office building and floating dock in Kayangel. President Surangel Whipps, Minister of Public Infrastructure and Industries Charles Obichang, Minister of HRCTD Ngiraibelas Tmetuchl, Minister of Education Dale Jenkins, Speaker Sabino Anastacio, Delegates, Kayangel Governor Richard Ngirked, state legislators and many government staff and state citizens took part in the events as well.
In her remarks, Ambassador Lee mentioned that this is her second visit to the beautiful Kayangel State. Her first trip was with PVA’s beach cleaning program and that was when she learned Kayangel is the frontline of climate change, because most of the debris came from the Philippines and Indonesia. The new State Office building and floating dock that granted by Taiwan will enhance local climate change resilience and promote people’s quality of life.
After her remarks, President Surangel Whipps, Jr. thanked Taiwan’s grant to Kayangel State and pointed out that the new State Office will be flood proof and could withstand strong typhoons, it will serve as a shelter in extreme weather and the new floating dock will be installed at the pier which is accessible for people and smaller boats. He appreciated Taiwan’s humanitarian assistance for Kayangel in Typhoon Haiyen again, with Taiwan’s help, Kayangel citizens could rebuild their hometown.
