To support and continuously promote the Palau Omal International Marathon and integrate it with a sustainable tourism model, the Embassy of ROC (Taiwan) in Palau, represented by Minister Franklin Chen, donated funds on the June 28, 2024 to help Palau organize the 2024 Palau International Marathon. The funds were received by Kadoi Ruluked, Director of the Palau Visitors Authority, and Uchel Tmetuchl, President of the Palau Athletics Association. Director Ruluked expressed gratitude for Taiwan's sponsorship, which aids in promoting Palau tourism. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Taiwan and Palau, and Taiwan’s continued support for the marathon will definitely enrich Palauan Tourism market and deepen the bilateral relations.
Peoria iPoich Koshiba, Secretary-General of the Athletics Association, and other officials were invited to attend the ceremony. President Tmetuchl explained that this year's marathon is expected to attract over 1,000 runners. Through media networks and travel agencies, marathon enthusiasts from Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, Australia, the United States, and other like-minded countries, as well as Pacific island nations, will be invited to participate. The association will make good use of the funds donated by Taiwan to ensure the success of this year's event and further promote tourism in Palau.
