On September 29, 2024, Special Envoy Ljaucu Zingrur, Minister of The Council of Indigenous Peoples (CIP)of the Republic of China (Taiwan) called on H.E. , President of the Republic of Palau to present the congratulatory letter of H. e. Lai, Ching-Te, President of the Republic of China (Taiwan). Minister Gustav Aitaro of State, Minister Steven Victor of Agriculture, Fisheries, and the Environment and Minister Ngirabelas Tmetuchl of Human Resources, Culture, Tourism and Development were also present. Special Envoy Ljaucu Zingrura were accompanied by Ambassador Jessica C Lee, of the Taiwan Embassy, Director Yapasuyongu Poiconu of the Department of General Planning of CIP, Deputy Director-General Stephen Hsu of the Asia-Pacific Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, ROC (Taiwan).
President Whipps welcomed Special Envoy Ljaucu for leading the delegation to celebrate Palau’s 30th anniversary of the independence. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Taiwan and Palau. When looking at the partnership between two countries, advancement is made in areas such as economy, health care, education, climate change and protection of the environmental. It is a testimony to the profound friendship between the two countries. On behalf of the government and people of Palau, President Whipps bid a heartfelt welcome to Special Envoy Ljaucu and his delegation again and felt honored to have friend like Taiwan to celebrate its 30th Anniversary of Independence together.
Special Envoy Ljaucu felt very honored to be appointed as Special Envoy of President Lai, Ching-Te to lead a delegation to Palau to celebrate its 30th anniversary of Independence. He sincerely thanked the Palau government for its staunch support of Taiwan’s international participation. He pointed out that President Whipps spoke up for Taiwan at the United Nations General Assembly earlier this month. On behalf of the government and people of Taiwan, he would like to express his sincere gratitude. Taiwan’s aboriginal culture has many cultural similarities with Palau. For example, “Alii” in Palauan means “hello”, while in the aboriginal language, it means “good friend”. Therefore, visiting Palau is like returning to hometown tribe, which feels natural and cordial. He hoped that Taiwan and Palau further strengthen its Austronesian cultural exchanges. At last, he wished the friendship between Taiwan and Palau last forever, and that Palau’s 30th independence celebration will be a great success.
Ambassador Jessica C Lee pointed out that the 80-member delegation was the largest one among all the delegations, demonstrating the deep friendship between Taiwan and Palau. The delegation is composed of Township Mayors, participants in Female Talent Exchange Programs, dancers of NaLuwan Dance Troupe as well as professionals of museum. The latter held workshops on the conservation of treasured artifacts.
Later, President Whipps and the aforementioned ministers attended Special Envoy Ljaucu’s Dinner banqet. Distinguished guests such as Speaker Sabino Anastacio of the House of Delegates, Vice President Kerai Mariur of the Senate, Bilung Gloria Salii, Ebilreklai Mitsko Walter, and several high chiefs of different states. Special Envoy Ljaucu and President Whipps jointly proposed a toast to all the guests in celebration of the 30th anniversary of Palau's independence and the 25th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Taiwan and Palau.
