Special Envoy Ljaucu Zingrur, Minister of The Council of Indigenous Peoples (CIP)of the Republic of China (Taiwan), attended a series of celebrations for the 30th anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Palau on September 30 and October 1 respectively, including attending the Mechesil Belau (Palau Women’s Conference), the State Banquet and the Ceremony of the 30th Independence.
On September 30, Special Envoy Ljaucu delivered a speech at the Mechesil Belau. He pointed out that the signing of an act related to Palau women’s benefit highlighted Palau’s tradition of respecting women. He then stated that it was a great honor to lead a delegation to Palau as Special Envoy of President Lai, Ching-Te to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Palau, as well as the 25 years of the diplomatic relations between Taiwan and Palau. He firmly believed that the cordial ties between the two countries will last forever and will join hands for the next 25 years. Then he shared Taiwan's policies and measures to promote the health of indigenous peoples. He pointed out that the secret to maintaining health among Taiwan's indigenous peoples is to live in compliance with God's will, eat natural and simple foods, and be happy. Special Envoy Ljaucu’s speech and his humor received a warm applause from the audience. Later in the evening, Special Envoy Ljaucu led an 80-member delegation to attend the State Banquet, including i Indigenous township mayors, participants in Female Talent Exchange Programs, dancers of NaLuwan Dance Troupe as well as media representatives. The Pasibutbut (Eignt-part polyphony) and dynamic dances brought a sizzling atmosphere.
On October 1, Special Envoy Ljaucu attended the ceremony of the 30th Independence of the Republic of Palau among representatives from 30 countries including the United States, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand. Hon. Sabino Anastacio, Speaker of the House of Delegates, thanked all the foreign dignitaries for joining the event and expressed appreciation for the assistance Palau had been extended in various areas, and the Republic of China(Taiwan) was one of them. President Surangel Whipps Jr. introduced Special Envoy Ljaucu representing President Lai Ching-te of the Republic of China (Taiwan). He stated that representatives from 30 countries around the world traveled all the way to celebrate Palau’s 30th anniversary of Independence today. He felt extremely honored that good friends were with Palau at this important moment. A representative from Palau later read out President Lai’s congratulatory message, the atmosphere was solemn and touching. The master of ceremony introduced the Naluwan Dance Troupe that the Naluwan Dance Troupe was invited to perform when Palau became independent in 1994. Today, 30 years later, the Naluwan Dance Troupe was here with us, symbolizing the deep friendship between the two countries. The amazing performance of the Naruwan Dance Troupe caught all the attention of the distinguished guests. After their performance, President Whipps invited Special Envoy Ljaucu, Ambassador Jessica C. Lee of the Taiwan Embassy in Palau and all the delegation members to take a group photo. After the ceremony, Special Envoy Ljaucu visited the Olechotel Belau Fair and tasted Palau’s traditional delicacies to learn more about the tradition and culture of Palau. (E)
