Taipei Mission in Sweden held a celebration of the 108th National Day of the Republic of China (Taiwan) at the Swedish History Museum on the evening of October 3. Around 200 people, including Mr. Mats Berglund, Vice Chairman of the Swedish-Taiwanese Parliamentarian Association, several Swedish Members of Parliament, senior government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, think tanks, scholars, overseas Chinese and international students attended the reception.
Ambassador Daniel Tung-Chou Liao in his speech stressed that the government of Republic of China (Taiwan) would cooperate with like-minded countries to uphold the concept of “Steadfast Diplomacy” and common values of “Freedom, Democracy, the rule of law and human rights”. Taiwan has transformed itself from an Aid Recipient to an Aid Donor, and Taiwan has the ability to be a provider of extensive foreign aid; however, China has continuously blocked Taiwan’s participation in international organizations and institutions. Ambassador Liao asked the participants to continue supporting Taiwan and to promote Taiwan as a responsible and competent stakeholder. Ambassador Liao proposed a toast to the prosperity of the R.O.C (Taiwan) and the friendship between Taiwan and Sweden.
The Swedish Member of Parliament, Mr. Mats Berglund, on behalf of the "Swedish-Taiwanese Parliamentarian Association", addressed that he is honored to serve as the Vice Chairman of the association and he hopes that the relationships between Sweden and Taiwan could be further strengthened through the cooperation in fields such as economy, academy, and tourism. Mr. Mats Berglund invited all the guests to propose a toast to the prosperity of the R.O.C (Taiwan) and the two nations' everlasting friendship.
Taipei Mission in Sweden also invited pianist Ashley Chen to perform a few Taiwanese musical pieces. And the the “Brave and Confident: One with the World” video was played in the venue.
Ambassador Liao, Mrs. Liao, Mr. Mats Berglund, and the Chairperson of Formosa Culture Association, Ms. Mei-Fang Lin cut the cake to celebrate the 108th birthday of our country.
