“Taiwan model” has become widely recognized as an example of how COVID-19 pandemic can be handled since the beginning of 2020. The world is still stuck in the deep trouble that the pandemic has caused and Taiwan wants to help and be a member of the team. The spread of infection of Covid-19 has in many parts of the world increased as of recent and many fear a second wave, and a strong international cooperation has been very important during the pandemic. Taiwan also has no access to WHO COVID-19 Reference Laboratory Networks, and more than 70% of its applications to attend the WHO technical meetings have been ignored or declined. This unfair treatment is not only detrimental to the fundamental health rights of Taiwan’s 23 million citizens, but also creates a dangerous gap in the global disease prevention network.
We urge Sweden to support Taiwan’s participation in the WHO’s meetings, mechanisms and activities because it would be in the interest of the whole world.
