Ambassador Klement Gu and Mrs. Gu hosted the National Day Reception of the R.O.C. Taiwan at the Swedish History Museum in Stockholm on October 10th 2023.
During his opening remarks, Amb. Gu expressed his appreciation for Swedish government staunch support for Taiwan this year. Swedish Foreign Minister Tobias Billström stated that "China's new tone towards Taiwan is worrying" in Statement of Foreign Policy 2023. Prime Minister, UI Kristersson reiterated in Statement of Government Policy that "China's conduct towards Taiwan is worrying, and threats of military violence are unacceptable". Swedish Minister for Health Care, Acko Ankarberg Johansson, at the WHA in Geneva this year, supported Taiwan's bid by mentioning "Leaving no region of the world".
Besides, until now, Swedish-Taiwanese Parliamentary Association has raised 15 questions in favor of Taiwan. 52 MPs supported our WHA bid. And there were 3 parliamentary delegations visited Taiwan this year. Taiwan is a trust worthy partner for Sweden. T(aiwan)ogether, we are S(weden)tronger!
Vice president of Taiwan-Sweden Parliamentary Friendship Association, Mr. Mathias Tegnér later on presented his remarks. Mr. Tegnér shared that he was amazed by the diverse, free and hardworking society of Taiwan during his visit to Taiwan in August this year. Mr. Tegnér said that Sweden and Taiwan shared common values such as democracy and freedom. The Association will keep supporting Taiwan meaningful participation in international organizations such as WHA and will keep cultivating the friendship between Sweden and Taiwan.
