Mahidol University (MU) and National Cheng Kung University (NCKU, Taiwan) have established joint research center, MU-NCKU Joint Research Center (MU-NCKU JRC). MU-NCKU JRC’s opening ceremony was held on November 5th morning. Both universities presidents signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for bilateral cooperation, and cut the ribbon in front of MU-NCKU JRC’s name plate. Over 70 guests have joined the opening ceremony, including MU president Dr. Banchong Mahaisavariya, NCKU president Dr. Huey-Jen Jenny Su, Director General of Department of Life Science in MOST Taiwan Dr. Woei-Jer Chuang, MU acting vice president Dr. Nopranue Sajjarax Dhirathiti, and MU dean of faculty of dentistry Dr. Waranun Buajeeb. Dr. Waranun Buajeeb also introduced background of MU and NCKU’s partnership in her remarks. Also, distinguished guests such as representative of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Thailand (TECO) Dr. Chen-yuan Tung as well as representatives from Thailand Board of Investment (BOI) and industrial sectors also attend to witness this encouraging moment.
MU-NCKU Joint Research Center is NCKU(Taiwan)’s 3rd oversea research hub. Its mission is to organize and promote joint programs such as training courses, bilateral academic conferences, technology forums and so on. In the future, NCKU hopes to establish similar partnership with other top universities in ASEAN countries, integrating international needs for talent development and industry growth to create regional common value.
MU-NCKU JRC opening ceremony also exhibits products from some promising start-ups innovated by NCKU research team which have become successful models for university-to-industry technology transfer, inclusive of Meet Tech. Corp., Joy Medical Device Corp., Taiwan Earning Co. Ltd. and so on. Moreover, a workshop on “ Medical, Dental and Material for Healthcare Innovation” was jointly held after the signing ceremony, with both universities’ prestigious research teams ,totally 19 speakers, sharing their new findings and work achievements in the topics of innovative medical devices/solutions, digital dentistry, Smart Healthcare and clinical research.
Both MU and NCKU are rich in academic capacity with reputable hospital. MU-NCKU Joint Research Center will be finishing its construction at 1st floor at Faculty of Dentistry, Mahidol University Phaya Thai Campus, and could encourage deeper communication and collaboration between both universities, most importantly to bridge development from both sides’ talent education and medical technology with a long-term goal to satisfy clinical unmet needs. Furthermore, both universities’ alliance with industry will enhance international academia-industry cooperation and upgrade local human resource training and the industry. Therefore the basis of bilateral research development will contribute to health industry, improving humans’ well-being.
