The 2025 Taiwan Fellowship programme opened for online applications on 1 May 2024. The deadline for applications is 30 June 2024.
The Taiwan Fellowship was established by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) of the Republic of China (Taiwan). Its purpose is to offer opportunities for conducting advanced research at universities or academic institutions in Taiwan to foreign experts and scholars who are interested in topics relating to the Republic of China (Taiwan), cross-strait relations, Asia-Pacific regional security, global cyber security and combatting fake news, sinology, as well as defence and strategy.
The fellowship includes a monthly stipend of NT$60,000 for professors, associate professors, research fellows and associate research fellows, while assistant professors, assistant research fellows, post-doctoral researchers, doctoral candidates and doctoral programme students are entitled to a NT$50,000 monthly stipend. Recipients are also entitled to one round-trip economy-class ticket for the most direct route between their country of residence to Taiwan (the subsidy for travel will be decided by MOFA in accordance with the relevant guidelines). Accident insurance (plus medical insurance for accidental injuries) of up to NT$ 1 million is also provided.
The recipients of the fellowship can begin their research in Taiwan in January 2025. The duration of the programme is from 3 to 12 months and must be within the year 2025. The fellowship cannot extend into 2026 (i.e. to obtain a full 12 months the recipient must begin the fellowship in January 2025 and end by December of the same year).
