On 15 July, Tseng Chun-hsin became the first Taiwanese player to claim the Wimbledon boys’ singles title as well as the first junior athlete since 2004 to win the French Open and Wimbledon boys’ singles crowns in the same season. Tseng scored an impressive 6-1, 6-7, 6-4 victory over Jack Draper of the UK at the Grand Slam in London. The young player shares a birthday with tennis great Roger Federer, who won the same title twenty years ago. In his post-match interview, Tseng expressed great humility: “I think I would just keep doing my best and keep working hard and hopefully one day I can come back here again.”
Tseng is currently No. 1 in the International Tennis Federation boys’ junior rankings and widely regarded as the most promising talent in Asia. In 2015, he became the first Asian player to win the boys’ singles title at Les Petit As, a leading junior tournament held annually in France for 12-14 year olds.
