Representative Lin's letter published in The Times:Closed regime

Responding to the #China's Defence minister threatening action over #Taiwan, Representative Lin calls on the world’s democracies to make it clear that it is unacceptable in his letter in The Times.
Sir, Your leading article (“Chinese Whispers”, Jun 4) rightly voices concerns about the lack of contrition shown by the Chinese defence minister General Wei Fenghe in the run-up to the 30th anniversary of the Tiananmen massacre. Objectionable as this attitude may be, the consequences go beyond a failure to acknowledge a historical wrong. The mindset that led to the terrible events in 1989 continues to prevail in Beijing, as shown in Didi Tang’s piece (“Beijing minister threatens action over Taiwan”, Jun 3). China’s rulers are still prepared to use force to crush dissident views, whether they be within the People’s Rebublic of China or the wishes of the 23 million people of Taiwan to determine their own future. The world’s democracies must make it clear that this is unacceptable.
