“Taiwan Cinema Night” was held on 29 October at the Radisson Blu Edwardian Hotel to celebrate the fourth consecutive year of Taiwanese cinema screenings in the London East Asia Film Festival (LEAFF). The event was attended by VIPs from the world of cinema, including director Mark Lu, whose film ‘Deep Evil’ was one of two Taiwanese films selected to compete in the LEAFF’s prestigious competition programme.
In his welcoming speech, Deputy Representative Shyang-Yun Cheng highlighted Taiwan’s reputation as a vibrant hub of creative filmmaking and pointed out that the country has been an important destination for directors across Asia for many years.
Following the 2018 strand “Cinematic Journey through Taiwan”, this year featured screenings of six critically-acclaimed Taiwanese films across LEAFF’s specially curated strands. The screenings attracted a full-house, giving audiences from the UK and other countries the opportunity to enjoy a selection of diverse cinema from new and innovative Taiwanese directors.
