The Lunar New Year parade in Washington, D.C., organized by the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association (CCBA), was successfully held on the afternoon of Sunday, Feb. 2. Ambassador Alexander Yui and his wife Mrs. Karen Lo joined TECRO’s staff, Chinese school students, and overseas compatriot organizations in promoting the cultural heritage of the Lunar New Year. Over 35,000 people participated in this year’s event!
Ambassador Yui began his remarks by expressing his condolences for the victims of the recent air accident in Washington, D.C. He also expressed his gratitude to the overseas community members for their longstanding contributions to the Taiwan-U.S. relationship. He said that the delegation led by R.O.C. Legislative Yuan Speaker Han Kuo-Yu to the U.S. presidential inauguration ceremony highlighted our remarkable partnership and that he's looking forward to even closer ties between Taiwan and the United States in the new year.
This year’s parade drew massive crowds and featured a vibrant procession. District of Columbia Mayor Muriel Bowser, DC Council Chairman Phil Mendelson, and members of the city council also joined in the event to witness the friendship between Taiwan and the United States. Many participants waved the flags of Taiwan and the United States, marking the Lunar New Year in a show of multicultural harmony.
