On Bloomberg’s “This Weekend,” Ambassador Alexander Yui stressed that Taiwan is not on the menu, as U.S. policy toward Taiwan under the Taiwan Relations Act and Six Assurances remains unchanged following CCP General Secretary Xi Jinping’s visit to Washington, noting that senior U.S. officials have repeatedly reaffirmed this position. He also highlighted that despite China’s continued efforts to isolate Taiwan, Taiwan continues to strengthen international partnerships and expand economic and trade ties worldwide.
Ambassador Yui underscored the robust Taiwan-U.S. economic and trade partnership, emphasizing that Taiwan’s U.S. investment is backed by not just mere words but concrete actions, including an upcoming business delegation’s visit to Phoenix, AZ led by Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung. Taiwan is now the United States’ fourth-largest trading partner, while the U.S. is the preferred destination for Taiwanese investment, reflecting increasingly integrated and trusted industrial supply chains.
On security, Ambassador Yui noted China’s ever-growing military and gray-zone coercion against Taiwan, including military incursions, disinformation, and political infiltration. He stressed that continued U.S. arms sales are critical to strengthening deterrence, highlighting the arrival in Taiwan of the first two F-16V BLK-70s purchased from the United States as an important milestone for Taiwan-U.S. security ties and Taiwan’s air defense.
