The Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association of Washington, D.C. (CCBA) held its annual flag-raising ceremony in celebration of the 115th National Day of the Republic of China (Taiwan), bringing together members of the community in the U.S. capital to celebrate the occasion.
Ambassador Alexander Yui, Deputy Representative Johnson Chiang, and members of TECRO attended the ceremony. Ambassador Yui expressed appreciation to CCBA President Wanyu Hsu, former presidents, and community leaders for their longstanding support for the R.O.C. (Taiwan). Reflecting on World War II, Ambassador Yui underscored that it was the Republic of China that fought side by side with the United States as Allies. The history of the Flying Tigers—including R.O.C.’s insignia on the plane and flag worn on their flight jackets—stands as an enduring reminder of that partnership. He stressed the importance of preserving these historical facts in the face of Chinese communist regime efforts to distort the wartime record in an act of stolen valor against R.O.C. troops contributions and sacrifices.
Ambassador Yui also highlighted Taiwan’s key role in semiconductors, AI, and advanced manufacturing, as well as the growing Taiwan-U.S. partnership in trade, technology, and supply-chain resilience. Echoing President Lai’s recent message that “peace comes through strength, strength comes through resilience, and resilience comes through unity,” he reaffirmed Taiwan’s commitment to strengthening resilience, safeguarding democracy, and working with the United States and other like-minded partners for peace and stability.
