The Embassy Series, joined by the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the U.S., presents pianist Yi-Yang Chen at Arts Club of Washington on Thursday , November 15, at 7:00 pm.
Yi-Yang Chen is an assistant professor of piano and music theory at East Tennessee State University. Born in Taipei, Taiwan in 1990, Mr. Chen has been playing the piano since the age of 8. He holds a Master of Music degree from The Juilliard School, where he studied with Robert McDonald and Jerome Lowenthal.
A wealth of experience has enabled Mr. Chen to become an outstanding performer. In 2017, he gave his Carnegie solo recital debut at Weill Hall, and performed two concertos with Avanti Orchestra at Washington D.C.
Mr. Chen is the winner of the 2017 Washington International Competition, 2017 Virginia Waring International Piano Competition, 2017 Five Town Piano Competition, 2016 High Point University Piano Competition and 2016 Hartford Chopin International Piano competition. As winner of the 2012 MTNA Young Artist Piano Competition, Yi-Yang was given a Steinway piano and two concerts in Miami sponsored by the Chopin Foundation/USA as his prize.
