Director General Vincent Liu and officers from the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Atlanta joined the 2018 Taste of Taiwan Gala on August 22 at The Westin Atlanta Perimeter North. The Gala was hosted by the Taiwanese Junior Chamber of Commerce of Georgia (TJCCGA).
In his remarks, DG Liu noted that Taiwan was voted the World’s Best Food Country in a 2015 CNN poll, and the first Michelin Guide to Taipei was introduced to public earlier this year. Twenty restaurants in Taipei were awarded 24 Michelin stars. DG Liu also praised TJCCGA for hosting the event.
Two well-known Taiwanese chefs, Tony Huang and Amo Liang, flew from Taiwan to prepare the dinner. Each dish served was sourced from local Georgia ingredients. These two top national chefs were sent by Taiwan’s Overseas Community Affairs Commission (OCAC) to demonstrate traditional Taiwanese cuisine as the ultimate cultural exchange. The dinner event was hosted by Crystal Lee, 2014 Miss California. During the event, TJCCGA also presented the 2018 Cultural Ambassador Awards to Dr. Ray Wang and Brad Raffensperger.
More than 400 guests attended the event, including Atlanta Council President Felicia Moore and Georgia Department of Agriculture Commissioner Gary Black.
