Director General Vincent Liu of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Atlanta attended the 2019 annual meeting of the North Carolina Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce and visited Lifestyle Group, the eighth largest furniture provider in the US, on June 28 and 29, 2019.
DG Liu was invited to emphasize that Taipower Chairman Yang Wei-fuu and GE Gas Power Chairman John Rice signed an agreement to purchase two natural gas turbines manufactured in South Carolina. The agreement will generate 4,000 jobs in the US and South Carolina, and help the US and Taiwan expand their economic relationship. Therefore, DG Liu said he would encourage North Carolina’s government to follow a similar pattern and strengthen our economic partnership relations. This year also marks the 40th anniversary of the Taiwan Relations Act, which forms the bedrock of the strong US-Taiwan alliance. By passing that law, the US assured Taiwan that it would continue to defend and support Taiwan, and enabled Taiwan to survive a dark time in its history and transform itself into the free society and robust democracy it is today.
Economic Director Martin Chen of TECO in Atlanta, CEO Christopher Chung of the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina, Kernersville Mayor Dawn Morgan and President Chris Comer of the Kernersville Chamber also made remarks at the Chamber’s annual event.
