Massachusetts drivers can now convert their licenses for use in Taiwan. The arrangement will go into effect today, March 2, following the signing of the conversion arrangement by Scott Lai, Director-General of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Boston (TECO-Boston), and Erin Deveney, Registrar for the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles (MassRMV). Massachusetts is the 16th state to sign such an agreement with Taiwan, and the first state in New England.
The reciprocal conversion arrangement applies to all Massachusetts drivers of passenger motor vehicles or motorcycles who have obtained resident status in Taiwan. All applicants must submit his/her U.S. passport, a valid Massachusetts driver’s license with a certified copy issued by TECO-Boston, Taiwan's Alien Residence Certificate (ARC), and driving record certified by the RMV issued no more than sixty days prior to the date of the application for the Taiwan license. Applications can be made at any Motor Vehicles Office in Taiwan.
