The Rhode Island General Assembly recently unanimously passed separate resolutions to congratulate Taiwan on the election of Dr. Lai Ching-te as President and Hsiao Bi-khim as Vice President. Later, the House of Representatives issued citations congratulating Taiwan on the upcoming inauguration of the 16th President and Vice President.
The Citations proposed by Speaker Pro Tempore Brian Kennedy were jointly signed by House Speaker K. Joseph Shekarchi, Majority Leader Christopher R. Blazejewski, and Minority Leader Michael W. Chippendale on behalf of the entire House of Representatives congratulating President-elect Lai Ching-te and Vice President-elect Hsiao Bi-khim on their election. The Citations recognize not only their persistence on the path of liberty, freedom, and democracy but also their continued efforts to maintain cross-strait and regional peace and stability and wish them continued prosperity.
In the New England region, in addition to Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Vermont also passed resolutions congratulating President-elect Lai and Vice President-elect Hsiao on their election; their inauguration will be held on May 20, 2024.
