For the first time, audiences saw two KUKA robots dance with human performers, interpreting the dynamic strokes of calligraphy.
In Ink, Huang Yi and audiovisual pioneer Ryoichi Kurokawa dismantle and reconstruct the lines from a hundred artworks by calligrapher Tong Yang-Tze. Through holographic projections, the calligraphy lines seemed to float in the air, captivating viewers with Taiwan’s creative fusion of performing arts and advanced technology. Director-General Yvonne Hsiao of TECO in Houson praised Huang Yi for bringing us this new page of how art can be combined with high technology!
Bob Bursey, Executive Director of Texas Performing Arts, expressed gratitude to Taiwan’s Ministry of Culture and Taiwan Academy of TECO in Houston for valued partnership in bringing this amazing work to Austin!
