Director General Yvonne Hsiao of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Houston was delighted to attend the signing ceremony for the "Taiwan as the Most Valuable Partner" (Taiwan MVP) program at the Bush School of Government and Public Service, Texas A&M University (TAMU), on February 11. Supported by Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), this initiative marks a significant collaboration between TAMU and National Taiwan University (NTU).
DG Hsiao signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to officially launch the Taiwan MVP program alongside Holly Hudson, Associate Vice President for Global Engagement at TAMU; Hon. John Sherman, Dean of the Bush School; Ambassador John Hennessey-Niland, the program director; as well as Dr. Chen-Ling Hung and Dr. Jason Kuo, the respective Associate Deans of the College of Social Sciences at National Taiwan University, who traveled from Taiwan for the occasion. Following the signing, she also engaged in insightful exchanges with various professors and graduate students from the Bush School.
In her remarks, DG Hsiao noted that the Texas A&M University System and Taiwan’s University Academic Alliance have already established a solid foundation for cooperation in talent cultivation and educational exchange within key sectors such as semiconductors, AI, and aerospace. She expressed her enthusiasm for expanding this partnership beyond STEM fields to include the prestigious Bush School, renowned for nurturing public service leaders. This collaboration opens a new chapter in Taiwan-U.S. educational cooperation within the social sciences.
