The Taiwan Academy of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Los Angeles has partnered with Louisa Coffee USA to present the joint exhibition "The Great Mother’s Dream: Metamorphosis as Power and Wisdom" from May 12 to August 17, 2026. The showcase features artworks by Taiwanese artists Ruby Swana and Lu Wei, alongside American artist duo Heather Beardsley and Alexandra Carter.
Set within Louisa Coffee’s first US flagship—a historic Art Deco building in the heart of West Hollywood—the exhibition transforms a premium retail space into a cultural hub where coffee culture meets contemporary art. By integrating Taiwanese art directly into the lifestyle of Los Angeles residents, the initiative aims to spark a new "Taiwan Trend" rooted in sensory experiences and lifestyle.
Curated by Vincent Chiang, whose deep expertise in the global art environment shapes the project’s vision, the exhibition highlights the creative synergy between Taiwan and the US. Lu Wei, a contemporary ink artist and former artist-in-residence at the 18th Street Arts Center, returns to Los Angeles to present her latest work and was recently selected as an arts professional for the Fulbright Professional. Heather Beardsley showcases embroidery pieces inspired by her residency at Kaohsiung’s Pier-2 Art Center, reflecting a direct dialogue with Taiwanese traditional crafts. Ruby Swana, an Amis artist, has created large-scale installations that wrap around the storefront, making indigenous-inspired art visible to the vibrant streets of West Hollywood.
The Taiwan Academy noted that this collaboration embodies the spirit of ESG framework in culture, fostering a public-private partnership that expands the global footprint of Taiwanese artists. This project leverages Louisa Coffee’s long-standing reputation for supporting the arts to promote "Art for All," strengthening cultural ties between California and Taiwan.
The exhibition is open daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM during the store’s opening hours. For more information, please visit: https://www.instagram.com/louisacoffee.usa/.
