In order to help outstanding, innovative Made-in-Taiwan products succeed in the U.S. market, the first time “Taiwan Excellence” Pavilion in Los Angeles, organized by the Bureau of Foreign Trade, Ministry of Economic Affairs of Taiwan, republic of China and implemented by the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), was held at 2014 Asian American EXPO during January 18-19. The latest Taiwan Excellence awarded products and high quality MIT (Made-in-Taiwan) products were introduced to the Southern California.
The Taiwan Excellence Pavilion using “FUTURE TECHNOLOGY, SMART LIVING” as the exhibition topic, showcased the latest innovative technology and the “SMART” lifestyle in Taiwan. The exhibition directly shipped up to 103 products from 50 Taiwan brands, including folding bicycles, electric scooters and wheelchair, latest model of Asus and Acer Ultrabooks and medical devices for household use.
Ambassador Bruce Linghu, Director General of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Los Angeles hosted the opening and ribbon cutting ceremony on January 18. VIP guests, including Congressman Ed Royce, California State Senator Bub Huff, Deputy Director Brian Peck from Governor’s Office of Business& Economic Develop and President Alan Kao of CCYP.COM were invited to attended the ceremony.
Ambassador Linghu addressed in his opening remark that it is an special opportunity to present to the public how best Taiwan products are and the “Taiwan Excellence” Exhibition is definitely a best way to introduce innovative and high-qualities Taiwan products to the United States market. Congressman Ed Royce said that Taiwan and Untied States has built a close relationship in bilateral trade and investment, and it is excellence to have Taiwan Excellence Exhibition launched in Southern California. Mr. Royce also mentioned that his will lead a group of 9 congress members visit Taiwan in February to further enhance United States-Taiwan relationship.
In addition to Taiwan Excellence awarded products, the exhibition also showed almost a hundred MIT Smile Logo Products, introducing the Safety, Health, Trustworthy and High-quality of “Made-in-Taiwan” products to Southern California consumers. The two days exhibition attracted thousands of visitors, and the Taiwan Excellence Pavilion was the spotlight attraction for the 2014 Asian American EXPO.

Taiwan Excellence is the highest accolade awarded to products that encapsulate Innovalues. Formerly known as the Symbol of Excellence (SOE), Taiwan Excellence was set up in 1993 to encourage Taiwan industries upgrade and incorporate Innovalues into their products. The Taiwan Excellence Awards Selection is based on five different criteria for evaluating products: R&D, Quality, Design, Marketing and Made in Taiwan. In 2013, a panel of experts selects over 541 winners according to the five prescribed criteria. Among these 541 winner, 26 products are awarded as Taiwan Excellence Gold & Silver Awards. These distinguished products will represent Taiwan on the international stage.
About Taiwan-made Product MIT Smile Logo
“Taiwan-made MIT Smile Product Certification System” launched in 2010, to shape up the image of being “safe, healthful and trustworthy” image of Taiwan-made products. The Ministry of Economic Affairs has commissioned third-party professional impartial certification institutions to administer MIT-Smile certification system based on the product originality, factory production management systems, product functionality and its safety features. Only those items which successfully passed the assessments can use the new MIT-Smile logo on the products.
