When it comes to study abroad, financial support is an important factor to consider. The Ministry of Education of the Republic of China established two flagship scholarship programs, the Taiwan Scholarship Program - to encourage international students to undertake an academic degree in Taiwan - and the Huayu Enrichment Scholarship Program - to encourage international students to learn Mandarin in Taiwan - in 2004, to enhance Taiwan’s educational links with the world.
These scholarships are awarded annually by Taiwan’s overseas missions and this year, the Education Division of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in Los Angeles is pleased to announce that in 2020, three Taiwan Scholarships, and Huayu Enrichment Scholarships (HES) covering a total period of ten 12-month (individual recipients may stay for a number of months or up to one full year) will be available to US citizens from Southern California, Arizona, New Mexico, Hawaii, and Guam.
Taiwan is a modern, democratic society whose university system is gaining global prominence, with Taipei one of Asia’s leading higher education hubs. Its outstanding universities offer quality instruction in either Chinese or English for a wide variety of programs. Taiwan has long been an ideal destination to study Mandarin and it boasts more than 60 Mandarin Chinese Language Centers affiliated with universities throughout Taiwan, which all offer a wide range of Chinese courses year-round to suit all ages, interests, and study aims.
As more and more U.S. universities encourage students to study abroad and provide access to global experiences as an integral part of the college education, Rebecca Lan and colleague Emily Shen of the Education Division TECO attended the Worldfest Education Abroad Fair held at University of California, Riverside (UCR) on January 28th, to promote the government scholarship programs, and invited UCR students to study, do internships, and even work in Taiwan, where they will meet friendly and helpful people, experience a diverse range of vibrant cultures, enhance language ability, and acquire the skills to work in a global marketplace.
The application period for these two scholarship programs is from February 1 till March 31, 2020. For more detailed information regarding the two scholarship programs, please visit scholarships.tw.org to learn more. Questions and inquiries can be directed to info@tw.rog for assistance.
