The TW-US Innovation Workshop was formed by Investment and Trade Office, Taipei Economic and Cultural Office, New York on December 10th, 2014. To continue this friendship connecting event, the second TW-US Innovation Workshop 2015 Spring Networking Event was held in evening of March 31st, 2015.
The welcome remarks of the 2015 Spring Event was delivered by Mr. Brian Su, Deputy Director General, Taipei Economic and Cultural Office, New York, to three speakers, Prof. Yung-Chi Cheng is the Henry Bronson Professor of pharmacology at Yale University School of Medicine, Ms. Claire McLeveighn, Vice President, Empire State Development and Mr. Koon Yan Pak, President of Molecular Targeting Technologies, Inc. and all participants of the event.
In the speech section, speaker shared their experience on from a different perspective.
Topic: Chinese Medicine could be the cornerstone of future medicine : opportunity and challenge
Prof. Cheng introduced the approaches and philosophy of drug development and why Chinese medicine is the cornerstone of future medicine. He used PHY906 as an example to share his experience with participants.
Topic: The “State” of New York State Biotechnology
Ms. McLeveighn introduced the economic development, biotechnology and various award programs in New York State.
Topic: Challenges and Opportunities in Biotechnology: Molecular Targeting Technologies, Inc. (MTTI) Experiences
Dr. Pak focused on the challenges that Molecular Targeting Technologies, Inc. (MTTI) has encountered as development stage biotechnology company primarily focused on the acquisition and development of novel technologies for treatment and diagnosis of cancer and cardiovascular diseases. He will focus on the challenges such as (i) intellectual properties, (ii) partnerships, and (iii) funding.
Strategies used to overcoming these challenges will be presented.
