The Bellevue Collection, Seattle Chinese Culture and Arts Association and the Republic of China (Taiwan) Overseas Community Affairs Council co-organized the “2017 Lunar New Year” event, sharing the important cultural heritage with the local community. The exciting event was held on February 4, 2017, from 11 am - 6 pm at Bellevue Square’s Center Court. Director General Vincent Yao of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Seattle and Director Ming-Yung Chen of the Culture Center of TECO in Seattle were invited to attend the opening ceremony at 2 pm.
Ms. Taidi Fang, Adviser of the R.O.C. Overseas Community Affairs Council & Founding President of Seattle Chinese Culture and Arts Association (SCCAA), and Mr. Dale Tu, President of SCCAA, were present to ensure the programs proceed smoothly. Distinguished guests who attend the event included Cyrus Habib, Lieutenant Governor of State of Washington, Tina Tran Neville, Director of Economic Development and International Relations of the State of Washington, Suzan DelBene, Congresswoman of the US House of Representatives, Bob Hasegawa, State Senator of the 11th District of the State of Washington, John Stokes, Mayor of Bellevue, Claudia Balducci, Councilwoman of King County, Debra Entenman, Field Representative of the office of Congressman Adam Smith (US House of Representatives), Michael Itti, Executive Director of the Washington State Commission on Asian Pacific American Affairs, Conrad Lee, Council member & former Mayor of Bellevue, Pedro Augusto Leite Costa, President of Consular Association of Washington, Leo van Dorp, Honorary Consul for The Netherlands, and his wife Suzanne Kane, John Gokcen, Honorary Consul General Emeritus of Turkey, members of Overseas Community Affairs Council, including Commissioner David Chow, Commissioner Chi-Jan Chuang, Senior Adviser Shiao-Yen Wu, Adviser Chang-Chi Hwang, Coordinator Key Donn.
The celebration featured numerous traditional and contemporary cultural demonstrations such as Taiwan Guan Jiang Shou, Taiwan Aboriginal Dance, Sichuan Style Chinese opera (Change Face), Shaolin Martial Arts and Techno Third Prince Nezha and other martial arts, music, dance and visual arts etc. The festival was open to audiences of all ages and includes fun, various activities for all to participate in.
