Ambassador Fiona Huei-Chun Fan, on behalf of the government of the Republic of China( Taiwan), donated 56,000 EC$ to the Dame Susan Dougan Foundation in Government House on February 5, 2024.
This initiative aims to support young girls who have faced challenges in the traditional education system by either reintegrating them into formal schooling or providing them with valuable skills to contribute meaningfully to their economy.
This endeavor aligns seamlessly with the Women's Empowerment Project that the Government of Taiwan initiated two years ago. We are driven by the belief that empowering women is not only an investment in their individual potential but also a catalyst for the stability and prosperity of our society.
When Governor-General visited Taiwan last October, it was clear that we shared a vision for supporting girls' education and skills. Taiwan’s President Tsai Ing Wen, on the same wavelength as Her Excellency, directed funding towards the Dame Susan Dougan Foundation. It's a powerful collaboration aimed at shaping a brighter future for the youth in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
Moreover, Taiwan's commitment to women's empowerment extends beyond our international collaborations. We have made significant strides domestically, with over 40 percent of national parliamentarians being women and more than 37 percent leading small- and medium-sized enterprises. Non Governmental Organizations In Taiwan continue to champion gender equality, advocating for victims of domestic violence.
We hope that this initiative serve as a catalyst for positive change, empowering young girls and fostering a more inclusive and equitable society.
