Thank you, Madam Chair.
I would like to join others in welcoming Montenegro and Samoa to our WTO family. I would also like to thank the Director-General for his report.
We share the concerns of many over the current global economic climate, which could lead to a rise in protectionism. While we need to strengthen the monitoring mechanism to keep protectionism at bay, we believe the completion of Doha would be a better method.
We cannot afford to let the Doha Round simply drift. It is our firm belief that we need to work and explore areas where progress can be made. Of course, the global supply chain is important. From our own experience, we have benefited from inclusion, particularly our SMEs (Small and Medium Enterprises). The expansion of global supply chains to include those not in the system will be beneficial and help to develop trade and development. In this regard, Trade Facilitation and Services can also be viewed as tools.
We also support the view that we should continue to work on development-related issues, including LDC (Least- Developed Countries) accession.
