1) Aiming to promote bilateral relations, Taiwan and Finland have reached an agreement to mutually set up representative organizations. The Taipei Representative Office in Finland has been functioning since June 1990, while its Finnish counterpart, which has adapted its current name as Finland Trade Center in Taiwan, was set up in 1991.
2) Economic and trade relations:
Bilateral trade between Taiwan and Finland reached US$ 664 million in 2023. In 2023, Taiwan's exports to Finland were 304 million US dollars. Meanwhile, Taiwan's imports from Finland amounted to 360 million US dollars.
As of 2020, Finnish enterprises have invested a total of 35 cases in Taiwan, with a cumulative amount to the value of 5.73 million US dollars. Major investment industries were: manufacturing of electronic components, machinery and equipment, information and communications, wholesale and retail. During the same period, Taiwanese domestic enterprises have actively engaged in investment activities in Finland. Major industries were: manufacturing of electronic components, scientific and technical activities.
3) Cultural and educational exchange:
Currently, there are 28 universities in Taiwan that has maintained active student exchange programs with their Finnish counterparts. Totally 67 educational co-operation program. On the official level, every year, the Taiwan government offers Taiwan Scholarship and Huayu Enrichment Scholarship to Finnish students who wish to study Mandarin or pursue an academic degree in Taiwan.
4) Overseas compatriots' situation:
There are about 200 Taiwanese living in Finland and many of them have moved to Finland because of cross-cultural marriage. Every year, Taiwanese students and scholars come to Finland for study and research.
