July 1 and 2 Festival X in Mikkeli brings rare and extraordinary musical experiences as Taiwan’s esteemed Kaohsiung Traditional Orchestra arrives in Finland. Kaohsiung Traditional Orchestra is one of Taiwan’s most distinguished symphony orchestras, known for its unique ability to combine traditional Taiwanese and Western music.
The Tai-Wan? concert series celebrates Taiwan’s rich cultural heritage, showcasing the beauty of its music and the mesmerizing sounds of traditional instruments. The program blends Western classical works with Taiwanese folk music, highlighting both virtuosic soloists and national stories embedded in melodic landscapes.As part of this concert, the audience will experience Jean Sibelius' Finlandia in a unique orchestral arrangement by Taiwanese composer Chi-Jou Cho. This adaptation offers a fresh perspective on the Finnish national classic, performed with the distinctive timbres of Kaohsiung Traditional Orchestra’s Asian instrumentation.
These concerts introduce rare instruments such as kezaixian, daguangxian, suona, and yangqin, offering audiences a fresh and immersive listening experience beyond Western classical traditions.
