Following the rich and affecting conversation with filmmaker Chong Keat Aun at eslite spectrum Kuala Lumpur, Guoguang crew members made the last stop of their publicity tour at Penang Youth Centre on May 2, with CEO Chang Yu-hua offering a fervent talk and wusheng (male martial arts role) Lee Jia-de and dan (female role) Lin Ting-Yu demonstrating signature techniques of their roles, making fans looking forward to their return for formal performances in July!
Director CEO Chang shared the long journey of how Jingju took root and localized in Taiwan, and what GuoGuang has done to make Jingju bounce back from the crisis of becoming an outdated and irrelevant art form to now has won over a large number of supporters across generations in Taiwan. At the age of 28 and 30 respectively, cast members Lee Jia-de and Lin Ting-yu talked about the painstaking yet self-fulfilling training of their daily routines. Their demonstration of difficult techniques and expressive interpretation of characters became solid proof of GuoGuang’s success in upholding traditions while staying relevant to times and new generations of audiences.
GuoGuang will present two productions—"Avenging Zidu” and “Zhuangzi Tests His Wife” on July 20 and 21 at George Town Festival. Ticket sales are set to begin on May 20, 2024.
