Subject: “TECO donates first ever Self-Service Library Check-out Station in the Philippines to Mapua”
Minister Samson T.L. Chang of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in the Philippines was invited to attend the UHF RFID (Ultra High Frequency Radio-Frequency Identification) Intelligent Library Launch in Mapua Institute of Techonology-Intramuros (MIT) on February 7, 2014 and was received by Dr. Reynaldo B. Vea, the institute’s President.
Minister Chang, on behalf of the TECO, turned over the first ever Self-Service Library Check-out Station in the Philippines to the institute, as part of the TECO’s continuous endeavor to nourish educational ties between Taiwan and the Philippines. President Vea thanked the TECO for its generous donation and expressed his hope that MIT-Intramuros may have more cooperation with universities in Taiwan in the near future. In turn, Minister Chang responded that the TECO will continuously function as a bridge to assist further academic cooperation and mentioned that, as the Republic of China (Taiwan) and the Philippines are long-time friends, sharing the universal values of freedom, democracy, and open society, golden opportunities are ahead of us for further collaboration in the fields of education and technology.
The UHF RFID automatic system, designed for the tracking of library materials, is made by the Taiwan company ClarIDy Solutions and is recognized by MIT-Intramuros as a global trend in the library field, as it provides state-of-the-art automatic service in modern library management where no man-service is highlighted. This proves once again Taiwan’s contribution to the development of top-notch library systems in the world. [E]
