My experience of study in Taiwan, 2021 HES scholarship recipient, Mandarin language course at National Taiwan Normal University (Maggie Huynh)

大家好, hello everyone, hej alla! My name is Maggie Huynh and I am a 12-months HES recipient from the year 2021-2022.
I moved to Taiwan last October 2021, and I am currently studying at Mandarin Training Center (MTC) at National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU, 師大), it is the oldest Mandarin training centre in Taiwan.
After living here for approximately 5 months, I have fallen in love with the island – the food, the nature, the hot springs, and the people. Apart from undertaking every-day Mandarin classes at MTC, I take every opportunity to travel and explore Taiwan. My favorite part of Taiwan so far is in the South – the food and the culture is so amazing. Especially, the sunny weather (in January!) in Kaohsiung and Tainan was very welcomed from this particular Swede.
School vacation is next week, and I will be traveling to Xiaoliuqiu and Kenting (Taiwan’s Hawaii) to swim with turtles, surf and kayak, and I look very much forward to exploring Taiwan even further.
Most importantly, the HES-award has allowed me to pursue my life-long goal of learning Mandarin, while also making friends for life from all corners of the world.
I am thankful for Taipei Mission in Sweden for granting me the opportunity to study in Taiwan! I encourage all of you to apply for the HES – you will not regret it!
