On 22 January 2020, Representative Francis Kuo-Hsin Liang attended the Lorong Koo Chye Sheng Hong Temple Association’s Spring Festival (Lunar New Year) light-up cum temple fair as its special guest. Ms. Tin Pei Ling, Singapore Member of Parliament for MacPherson SMC, was the guest-of-honor. Over ten officials from the Taipei Representative Office in Singapore, including Deputy Representative Steven Tai, were also at the event which saw the attendance of more than a thousand devotees and residents.
The bustling temple fair featured simultaneous local opera performances and variety singing. This year, the Lorong Koo Chye Sheng Hong Temple Association has again invited Yi Hwa Yuan Troupe from Taiwan, renowned for its opera performance, singing, acrobatics, and martial arts, to perform in Singapore for its 17-day spring festival temple fair.
In his address, Representative Liang commended the tremendous positive impact of the Lorong Koo Chye Sheng Hong Temple Association on the community through its various projects and welfare programs. Representative Liang also took the opportunity to convey Chinese New Year greetings to all, and hoped that everyone would enjoy themselves at the fair.
Speaking after Representative Liang, Singapore’s Member of Parliament, Tin Pei Ling, highlighted how Singapore has successfully transformed itself from a fishing village to a prosperous garden city because it has always prided itself as being an open, inclusive and multi-cultural country.
