On 24 January 2016, Representative Ta-Tung J. Chang hosted a networking dinner for the 14th ROC Delegation of Teen Diplomatic Envoys to facilitate interaction between the teen diplomats with representatives from various circles in Singapore. Present at the dinner were Professor Kuo Chen-Yu, Eddie, Emeritus Professor of the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information at the Nanyang Technological University; Mr. Heman Chen, Commissioner of the Overseas Community Affairs Council; Mr. Chen Zheng-min, President of the Taipei Business Association in Singapore; and a Taiwan scholar doing research work in Singapore.
In his address at the networking dinner, Representative Chang pointed out that the Ma-Xi Meeting held in Singapore last year was an affirmation of the close ties between Taiwan and Singapore. Singapore is a key member of ASEAN, TPP and RCEP, and since the signing of the Agreement between Singapore and the Separate Customs Territory of Taiwan, Penghu, Kinmen and Matsu (ASTEP), bilateral trade and investment have grown substantially, confirming the intimate trade and economic ties between the two countries. The number of visitors between the two countries, too, has similarly swelled over the years and this attests to the increasingly close people-to-people ties between the two sides.
The Taipei Representative Office in Singapore arranged for the teen diplomats under the Teen Diplomatic Envoys program to visit various governmental, non-governmental and cultural organizations in Singapore, including the APEC Secretariat, Marina Barrage, Singapore Press Holdings, the BreadTalk Group, Radin Mas Community Club, and the Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall (Wan Qing Yuan). The office also facilitated exchanges between the teen diplomats and students from UniSIM and Hwa Chong Institution.
