At the invitation of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO), a 96-member delegation from the National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra (NTSO) led by Deputy Culture Minister George Hsu performed at the Victoria Concert Hall on 2 and 3 April 2016. The two concerts, aptly entitled “Listening to Taiwan”, attracted an audience of over 1000 persons.
In a show of support, Representative and Mrs. Ta-Tung J. Chang invited friends from Singapore, including Mr. Ch'ng Jit Koon, former Senior Minister of State; Dr. John Chen, former Minister of State;Dr. Wang Kai Yuen and Mr. Seng Han Thong, former Member of Parliament; as well as members of the diplomatic corps to join them in attending the concerts.
The two concerts were conducted by Artistic Advisor, Wen-Pin Chien, and featured Mr. Chung-Shen Chen, veteran bamboo flautist, and Mr. Yu-Chien Tseng, 2015 Tchaikovsky Violin Competition top prize winner, as concerto soloists for one concert each. In his address during the reception, Representative Chang praised NTSO for thrilling the audience with the dazzling performances, and expressed his appreciation to NTSO for its contribution towards fostering cultural exchange between Taiwan and Singapore.
