2024 Taiwan Culture and Mandarin Chinese Language Camp Organized by Taiwan Representative Office in Thailand Draws Participation of 500 Thai High School Students

Press Release by Education Division, Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Thailand

June 16, 2024

On June 16, 2024, the 2024 Taiwan Culture and Mandarin Chinese Language Camp was successfully held at the Taiwan Association of Thailand, drawing over 500 high school students—a record attendance. This event, designed to enhance Thai teenagers' understanding of Taiwan and foster Mandarin Chinese language learning, aims to strengthen educational and cultural exchanges between Thailand and Taiwan.
The camp commenced at 7 a.m. with staff setting up a cultural information area, offering insights into studying in Taiwan. Resources such as "Study in Taiwan," the TEEP program, and the Ministry of Education Taiwan Scholarship were highlighted to motivate students to pursue educational opportunities in Taiwan.
The opening ceremony featured a speech by Ann Hsueh, Second Secretary of the Education Division at the Taipei Economic & Cultural Office in Thailand.

Secretary Hsueh expressed gratitude to Mrs. Belinda Changkajonsakdi, Chairwoman of Thai-Taiwan BDI Technological College, for her support and urged students to apply for various Taiwan scholarships. Mrs. Changkajonsakdi, in her remarks, emphasized the growing interest in Mandarin Chinese language learning and shared her personal experience as a Taiwan scholarship recipient. She encouraged students to embrace this learning opportunity and anticipated the event's success.
The event covered a rich variety of language and cultural courses, providing students with a comprehensive learning experience. In the morning, students participated in various language and cultural classes such as phonetic annotation, drama in Mandarin, sachet making, calligraphy writing and Chinese painting. Also, a course on "Introduction to Studying in Taiwan and Planning Counseling" provided detailed information on study abroad opportunities, scholarship applications, and crafting personal statements and study plans.
In the afternoon, at Wat Dhammakatanyu, there was an exclusive outdoor game combining traditional Chinese culture with Taiwanese children's play activities, such as lantern riddles for the Lantern Festival, tongue twisters, and rearranging Chinese character components, allowing students to experience Taiwanese culture through play.
The camp concluded with a closing ceremony attended by Mrs. Hsueh, Hsiu-Mei, Deputy Representative of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Thailand. Mrs. Hsueh noted the camp's success in increasing students' interest in Taiwanese culture and the Mandarin Chinese language, laying a foundation for future cultural exchanges. Certificates of appreciation were awarded to encourage continued academic pursuit.
The event received an enthusiastic response, with many students expressing their eagerness to participate again next year.
