Matters Needing Attention

Applicants MUST first contact the Taiwanese authorities (employer, immigration, school, etc.) who require these documents and confirm that the document's content, format, and numbers of copies, are as required. Then refer to Authentication page on our website for different types of documents. We do not take responsibility if the authenticated documents are rejected for their purpose.
No Impediment Certificate:
We only accept the following documents:
- Superintendent Registrar's Certificate of No Impediment to Marriage
- Certificate of No Impediment
- Certificate in Respect of Legal Capacity to Marry (Certificate of No Impediment) Marriage (Northern Ireland) Order 2003.
  We do NOT accept the following documents:
- Affirmation
- Affidavit of Marital Status
- Marriage Certificate
- National Record of Scotland.
For applicants who are under 20, please also follow:
a) Legal guardian of the applicant will need to come to our office and sign an agreement in person. If the legal guardian is unavailable, the pre-signed agreement will need to be notarised by a notary public and legalised by FCDO.
b) Legal guardian's valid passport and a copy of the passport.
c) Proof of legal gaudianship (e.g. birth certificate)

Service Area/ Consular Jurisdiction

Scotland, North England (above Durham and Cumbria), and the Isle of Man.

Other documents originating from the south of the United Kingdom (south of Durham and Cumbria, including Guernsey and Jersey) and Northern Ireland should be sent to our London office for authentication.

1	Document Authentication Application Form	Please provide correct information in all sections, and sign in wet ink. We don't accept electronic signature. Please list all the submitted items correctly. If an agent or family/friend is involved, please fill in the details in the agent section.
2	The origianl and a copy of the document to be authenmticated. Please make sure it has been legalised by the UK government	For documents issued in the UK, please get them legalised by FCDO and get the apostille attached before submitting to us. For documents issued in Isle of Man, please get them leagalised by The Isle of Man Courts of Justice before submitting to us.
3	Applicant's valid passport and a copy	For marriage related documents, please provide both partners' valid passports, and a copy. If one of you's Taiwan passport is expired, please provide a household registration within 3 months. In person: Please bring the origianl of your ID. By post: Please provide copies only.
If you would like the TRO to submit the marriage registartion on your behalf, please also provide the following items:
4	Foreign partner of a Taiwanese citizen should fill out Application-Form and Declaration	For submitting marriage registration only: If one's foreign partner is not able to visit Taiwan and the applicant wish for the TRO to submit the marriage registration on the couple's behalf. The couple should come to our office, and sign the required documents under witness. The signature should be authenticated by the TRO. If the couple plan to visit the registy in Taiwan in person, then the declaration is not needed. If for any reason, the foreign partner is not able to come to the office, please make sure the signed declaration is legalised by FCDO or Isle of Man Court of Justice before submitting to us.
5	Marriage Registration Application	For submitting marriage registration only.
6	Translation of the document, we only accept it in Traditional Chinese	For submitting marriage registration only: Please translate it by yourslef, and bring it to our office. You'll have to sign a declaration to proof that the translation is true to the original. The TRO does not provide translation service. If you are visiting the registy in person, the translation and the authentication can both be done in Taiwan. In the case when an agent is involved, please get your Power of Attorney authenticated by the TRO.
7	Household Registration	Please provide a copy of househod registration within 3 months
8	An agreement signed by the legal guardian of the under 20 applicant	For applicants who are under 20, please also follow: Legal guardian of the applicant will need to come to our office and sign an agreement in person. If the legal guardian is unavailable, the pre-signed agreement will need to be notarised by a notary public and legalised by FCDO. Legal guardian's valid passport and a copy of the passport. Proof of legal gaudianship (e.g. birth certificate)
If the document to be authenticated is divorce related, please provide item 1, 2, 3 and 7.

Important information regarding marriage registration in Taiwan

According to Taiwanese Civil Law Article 982, marriage is only valid in Taiwan when the registration process is completed.
If one's partner is a PRC citizen, the couple should be interviewed when submitting their registration application.
When the TRO submits registration application on the applicant's behalf. The defualt registry will be the registry located in the applicant's latest Tiwanese residance area.
In the case when an agent is involved, please get your Power of Attorney authenticated by the TRO.

Important information regarding divorce registration in Taiwan

The divorce is only valid in Taiwan when the decree or certificate of divorce issued by the UK courts is registered in Taiwan.
