Taiwan Continues to Contribute to the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS for Stabilization Assistance in SyriaOn December 12th, 2023, Taiwan’s Representative to the United States, Ambassador Alexander Tah-Ray Yui joined Managing Director Ingrid Larson of American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) to sign the Third Funding Arrangement Regarding Stabilization Assistance in Certain Areas of Syria.
In his remarks, Ambassador Yui noted that Taiwan, as part of the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS, will make a contribution to support the Coalition’s vital work to revitalize and strengthen civil society in northeast Syria, improve public health, enhance quality of life and develop the capacity of first responders. He also mentioned that countries in the world are currently facing common threats and challenges posed by authoritarian regimes and international terrorism. As President Tsai stated: “Taiwan is capable and willing to contribute to the international society. We will continue to play a more active role in the issues of international concern, and we are ready to work with like-minded partners to enhance regional and global stability and prosperity”. Today’s contribution reaffirms Taiwan’s unwavering commitment in providing humanitarian aid around the world.
Taiwan has been a member of the Global Coalition to Counter ISIS since October, 2014. The Coalition currently has 86 members. As a member of the Coalition and a reliable partner of the international community, Taiwan continues to provide critically needed humanitarian assistance to communities liberated from ISIS in recent years with an aim to help stabilize the local environment. The contributions have been widely recognized by the U.S. and other members of the Coalition. Taiwan will continue to work with the U.S. and other like-minded countries to ensure peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific, the Middle East, and other regions of the world for generations to come.
