The ROC and St. Kitts and Nevis jointly issued a set of postal stamps Jan. 15 commemorating 30 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Released at an event in the Caribbean nation attended by ROC Ambassador to St. Kitts and Nevis Miguel L.J. Tsao, Prime Minister Denzil Douglas and Minister of Postal Services Glenn Phillip, the issue celebrates strong ties between the longstanding allies.
The set comprises eight stamps showcasing bilateral cooperative projects, cultural and historical heritage, economic development and natural wonders, according to the MOFA.
Projects featured on the stamps include the Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport Solar Farm inaugurated in St. Kitts and Nevis last September.
Comprising 3,500 solar panels produced in Taiwan, the station is capable of generating 1 megawatt of electricity, more than enough to power the airport. The facility is the first of its kind in the Organization of East Caribbean States and a milestone in St. Kitts and Nevis’ green and renewable energy development.
The other collaboration is the Agro-Tourism Demonstration Farm located in the northwest of the island nation. Set to open later this year, the farm will feature greenhouses and tea rooms, and produce herbs and fruit using solar energy.
According to the MOFA, the farm is a pioneering project in the region and a key undertaking in efforts to assist St. Kitts and Nevis develop its economy through traditional agriculture with high value-added tourism.
Additional stamp images include Jade Mountain in central Taiwan; Taipei 101; Siyu Western Fort in Taiwan’s outlying Penghu County; as well as Brimstone Hills Fortress National Park, Mount Liamuiga and Port Zante in the Caribbean nation.
Other activities staged previously marking the 30th anniversary of bilateral ties last year include a reception, screening of Oscar-winning movie “Life of Pi” and the Taiwan and St. Kitts and Nevis Trade Show 2013.
ROC President Ma Ying-jeou also visited St. Kitts and Nevis in August 2013 and witnessed the signing of an extradition agreement between the two countries. Douglas made a return visit to Taiwan two months later.
