Director General Huang stated that by the end of 2018, the number of visitors to Taiwan had reached a record-high of 11 million people.
He also reiterated that this year marks the 40th anniversary of the Taiwan Relations Act, which promotes the two-way interaction between Taiwan and the United States. Taiwan is also pleased to see that the American Institute in Taiwan designates 2019 as the “Year of Tourism between Taiwan and the United States.” Both sides have established reciprocal relations on visa-waiver and customs clearance at airports, such as the United States’ “Global Entry Program” and Taiwan’s “e-Gate Enrollment System,” which makes visits to Taiwan more convenient.
