TECO in Chicago used to be called the “Consulate General of Republic of China in Chicago” and it was established in 1930. However, the name was changed to Coordination Council for North American Affairs in Chicago in 1979 after the formal diplomatic relations between the Republic of China and the United States of America broke off. TECO in Chicago was officially renamed in 1994.
TECO in Chicago’s jurisdiction includes seven states in the Midwest of Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, and Wisconsin. The geographical size of the seven states is approximately 445,000 square miles, and 8.53% of the whole landmass of the United States. The population of the seven states is over 57 million, which is about 17.37% of the United States population.
There are multiple divisions providing services at TECO in Chicago which include the Consular Division, Education Division, Economic Division, Press Division, and the Cultural Center of TECO.
