On October 26th, 2019, a "Taiwan Day" event was held at the headquarters of Rotary International in Evanston, Illinois to recognize the special contribution of Taiwan Rotary members. In the ceremony, the Rotary International displayed the national flag of ROC (Taiwan) and played the national anthem.
Eric Huang, Director General of the TECO Chicago office, was invited to attend the ceremony and expressed his appreciation to the Taiwan Rotary members who participate in international charity work so that Taiwan's humanitarianism can be spread all over the world.
In his speech, Trustee Chair Gary Huang noted that there are around 1,000 AKS members in the world, and Taiwan almost has 100, making Taiwan the country with the second highest number of AKS members in the world. The AKS stands for the Arch Klumph Society, of which members are recognized as the Rotary Foundation’s highest tier of donors. The enthusiastic dedication of Taiwanese to charitable work is admirable. This year, the total donation from Rotary Club of Taiwan reached about US$1,250 million, making it the fifth highest country in the world. The new Taiwan AKS members were accompanied by relatives and 17 other members, as well as Trustee Chair Gary Huang.
Gary Huang, Trustee Chair, and Mark Daniel Maloney, president of the International Rotary Club, also spoke, thanking Taiwan Rotary members for their active dedication. Their donations will be used to promote the eradication of polio, the purification of drinking water, scholarships and the promotion and equality of humanitarian charities.
