Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Guam (TECO in Guam) has changed its name from “Coordination Council for North American Affairs Office in Guam” since 1994. Through economic, trade and tourism exchanges, as well as sports, academic, educational , business officials' visits, Guam has ever since maintained close ties with Taiwan. Taiwan invests on Guam mostly in sectors of tourism, catering, construction, real estate, banking, insurance and electricity and has helped boost Guam's economy substantially over the past years.
In 2018, TECO in Guam was shut down by ROC (Taiwan) Government due to budgetary and manpower concern with Guam affairs being shifted to the Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) in Palau. In July 2020, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of ROC (Taiwan) announced Taiwan Government's decision to reopen TECO in Guam over the coming months. On October 10, 2020, by holding the reopening and Double Ten Day reception, TECO in Guam reopened officially with its operation restarted on October 13, 2020.
TECO in Guam's consular jurisdiction covers Guam and the Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI). Its work includes consular affairs, overseas community affairs, business, education and fisheries. Consular services include Taiwan passports, Taiwan visas, document authentification and authorizations.
