The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Honolulu (TECO) is the representative office of the Republic of China (Taiwan) in Hawaii.
On January 1, 1979, the Government of the United States established formal diplomatic relations with the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and severed the relations with the Republic of China on Taiwan. The Consulate General of the Republic of China in Honolulu was closed on February 28, 1979.
On March 1, 1979, the Coordination Council for North American Affairs (CCNAA) in Honolulu was established under the provision of Taiwan Relations Act (TRA). On October 10, 1994, this office’s name changed from CCNAA in Honolulu into the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in Honolulu until now. TECO in Honolulu is one of the 11 offices under the Washington D.C.-based Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office (TECRO), Taiwan’s de facto embassy in the United States in the absence of formal diplomatic ties.
The CCNAA is renamed "Taiwan Council for U.S. Affairs (TCUSA)" in May, 2019.
