Welcome to the website of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Houston (TECO-Houston). This website aims to provide you with the information necessary to learn more about the strong partnership between the Republic of China (Taiwan) and the United States, and Taiwan’s vibrant democracy, robust economy, authentic Chinese heritage, fascinating cultural diversity and friendly people.
Based on a persistent belief in the common values of liberty, equality and fraternity, the first Asian republic of the people, by the people and for the people was established by the founding fathers of the Republic of China in 1912. More than one hundred years later, the Republic of China on Taiwan is currently the only full-fledged democratic country in the Chinese communities worldwide where all men and women can enjoy freedom of expression, freedom of religion, freedom of association and open access to political participation. The Republic of China represents an indispensable hope for democracy in the Chinese speaking world.
The strong partnership between Taiwan and the United States is firmly based on the universal values of freedom, democracy and the rule of law, as evidenced by our mutually beneficial relations in various fields. TECO-Houston represents the ROC’s interests in the southern United States. The service area of TECO-Houston covers five states including Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi. Our mission is to promote exchanges and cooperation between Taiwan and the southern United States in trade and investment, science and technology, culture, education and tourism. Additionally, the office is established to serve the interests of Taiwanese citizens living and traveling in the area and to provide consular services to those in need.
TECO-Houston also oversees the Culture Center of TECO in Houston, Taiwan’s largest culture center of its kind worldwide, to provide a venue for a diverse range of cultural events for the ROC’s overseas compatriots.
Ms. Yvonne Hsiao is the Director General of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Houston.
