Did you know that Houston and Taipei established a sister city relationship in 1961, making them each other’s first sister city? Did you also know that EVA Air’s direct flight between Houston and Taipei has now passed its first decade, and that is going to transport a Bongo gifted by the Houston Zoo to the Taipei City Zoo?
Director General Yvonne Hsiao has the pleasure to participate in a series of celebration events, including the 10th anniversary of EVA Air’s Houston–Taipei direct flight, the 64th anniversary of the Houston–Taipei sister city relationship, the animal exchange between the Houston Zoo and Taipei City Zoo, and a graffiti art collaboration between the two zoos.
Since EVA Air launched its direct flight between Houston and Taipei in 2015, service has grown from three flights per week to daily flights, with an impressive passenger load factor of 90%. In recognition of this milestone, Houston’s Mayor Pro Tem Martha Castex-Tatum, on behalf of Mayor John Whitmire, proclaimed June 26, 2025, as EVA Air Day in Houston!
Moreover, this June, Taiwanese artist Bounce and Houston graffiti artist Gonzo247 collaborated on a mural at the Houston Zoo, which is expected to become a popular photo spot. In October, the two artists will reunite at the Taipei Zoo to create another mural, further celebrating the strong sister city bond between Houston and Taipei!
